The event will launch two books: one authored by and the other coauthored by researcher Drielli Peyerl, with the participation of Prof. Edmilson Moutinho dos Santos with one of the chapters
This Friday (August 2), at the Institute for Energy and the Environment of the University of São Paulo (IEE/USP), Professor Frederik Schultz, of the |University of Munster, Germany, will speak on the subject “A global history of the knowledge of hydroelectric plants in Latin America: the case of Tucuruí”.
The lecture will deal with the history of the production of technological knowledge and the economic conditions for building large dams and hydroelectric plants, showing how the exchange of knowledge with institutions of the United States and Europe was decisive in this process. He will also show how the destruction of the environment and the resistance of civil society, by indigenous groups and environmentalists, changed the way of thinking about hydroelectric power in the 1970s and 1980s.
After the presentation, a debate will be held with the participation of Professors Georg Fisher, of the University of Aarhus (Denmark), and Evandro Mateus Moretto, of the IEE and of the School of Arts, Sciences and the Humanities (EACH/USP), plus researcher Drielli Peyerl, show is involved with the IEE and the FAPESP Shell Research Centre for Gas Innovation (RCGI).
The event is part of the project of Drielli Peyerl, related to the subject of energy transmission (FAPESP) and of RCGI Projects 25 (The Paulista Blue Corridor) and 42 (Environmental Impact Assessment of CCS Activities in Brazil).
During the opening of the event, Drielli Peyerl will launch two books: The Oil of Brazil, of which she is the author, and History, Exploration & Exploitation of Oil and Gas, of which she is the coauthor. In one of the books, Prof. Edmilson Moutinho dos Santos, of the IEE/USP, wrote one of the chapters. The launch will also be attended by Professor Antoine Acker, of the University of Zurich (Switzerland).
