The Amazon is a strategic region for the issue of global climate change.
Its carbon stock of around 120 TgC and the current deforestation process, together with the absorption of carbon by photosynthesis from the protected forest, make this region key to the future of our planet’s climate.
The complex non-linear processes that regulate the climate, socioeconomic activities and ecosystem health are still poorly understood.
A broad approach is needed, using satellite and ground measurements, using artificial intelligence and machine learning, so that we can advance the science necessary to design effective public policies to protect the ecosystem.
These will be the topics addressed by Professor Paulo Artaxo in the first of a series of colloquia that RCGI launches. Join us in the debate!
