Applications will be accepted until 4:00 p.m., June 2, from those interested in becoming an assistant professor at the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (Poli/USP). Besides teaching, the position shall include research activities within the scope of the FAPESP Shell Research Centre for Gas Innovation (RCGI). Applicants must have a PhD or a doctorate in Science or Engineering, as well as experience in one or more of the following areas: Thermodynamics; Fluid Dynamics and Transport Phenomena; Applications of Transport Phenomena in Carbon Capture, Storage, and Use.
The position, which is in the Mechanical Engineering Department, requires excellence in academic research in the specific areas, proven by means of publications in national and international scientific books and journals. The profile includes applicants who have teaching skills for instructing university students to develop academic competence and who demonstrate good communication proficiency. Further recommended qualities are experience in the supervision of research and/or training of doctoral students, international mobility, and familiarity with new instructional and learning media using visual communication resources.
The selection process will be held in two phases: the first is a written exam, and the second includes a public oral examination, a test of teaching skills, and an analysis and evaluation the curriculum vitae. The competition is open to both Brazilians and foreigners and the tests can be taken in either Portuguese or English. The applicant’s diploma (whether Brazilian or not) must be valid in Brazil, or have equivalence recognized within the scope of the University of São Paulo. An approved foreign applicant may only be hired if a temporary or permanent visa is presented, proving the exercise of a remunerated activity in Brazil.
The salary of the approved applicant shall be R$ 10,670.76 per month (13 full payments per year), plus a research grant of about R$ 930,000.00 (gross amount) to be applied to research projects of the RCGI in up to 48 months. This research grant is to be used according to the rules of the University of São Paulo and the Innovation Laws of the Federal Government and of the State of São Paulo.
The RCGI was founded some two years ago as a research center financed by the Foundation for Research Support of the State of São Paulo (FAPESP) and by Shell. It currently has a portfolio of 45 research projects, divided into four programs: Engineering; Physicochemical; Energy and Economy Policies; and CO2 abatement. It is one of the main research centers supported by Shell, worldwide, with a budget of R$ 180 million for its first five years.
